What to say about Guarajuba?
The city of Camaçari, in Bahia, located 70km from Salvador, is amazing. I spent my childhood and much of my adolescence going to Guarajuba on weekends and in the summers. It all started when my family rented a house one summer. Several relatives and dear acquaintances spent wonderful afternoons with us, until they decided to rent their own houses. After a few summer vacations and rented houses, we decided to buy one so that we could have these get-togethers more often. And so, we followed friends and relatives buying their houses and making the place increasingly more familiar and pleasant.
We follow the growth of Mayor's Bar, Telma from Coalho cheese, and Dona Felipa from Acarajé. We saw vacant lots become houses and guesthouses, streets paved, and squares filled with leisure activities typical of squares. The beaches remained beautiful, thank God, and whenever I can, I want to go back there to recharge my batteries. We usually get off at Salvador airport, pick up a rental car, and in a maximum of 1 hour on the road, we arrive in paradise.
Today, I can still say that Guarajuba is a place with few parties and I hope it stays that way. With very little infrastructure, Guarajuba is really a place for a summer house, with bars on the beach to spend the day. If there are 5 restaurants open at night, that's a lot.
They opened the resort Gales Tides There, which is actually at the end of one of the condominiums in Guará, very close to Itacimirim, and there are other inns as well, but the people who go there stay in the houses spread out in several condominiums. People spend the day on the beaches or in their pools and at night, they stay at home. In the summer, it is common for the main square of the city to be very crowded with people and cars playing all kinds of music, mainly axé. Around the square there are some small shops, a supermarket, restaurants and ice cream shops. Closer to the entrance of the city, there is a mini mall with other restaurants and shops, but many times, you will find these establishments closed. During the summer, there is also a cool little craft fair in the square.
If you are bored and want to eat at a nice restaurant or see beautiful people, you can go to Praia do Forte in 30 minutes. There, you will find many restaurants, parties, inns, shops and tourists. There is Tamar Project It's also cool. Worth a visit!
But if you want to just hang out, you don't even need to leave Guará. The beaches are great, some with rough seas and others with natural pools, but always with nice, warm water. I love walking along the sand to Itacimirim, taking a dip in the pools and then sitting at the Bar de Prefeitinho, with my feet in the sand and receiving special service. Maybe it's special to me because people know me, but I've never heard anyone complain about it...
Cold beer, dozens of lambretas, lots of crabs and always shrimp moqueca. To top it off, there's Dona Felipa's acarajé (she has a stall right next to Bar do Prefeitinho) and Telminha's melted coalho cheese, a straight-laced brunette who can't stop moving, as you can see in the photo below. Telminha is now taking on other delicacies and adding them to her cheeses, such as calabresa, guava paste, pineapple...all very tasty! Then, there's nothing better than the coconut sweets sold by the children who come to her table. Or maybe the peanut and coconut popsicles from the Capelinha brand.
Anyway, for us, Guará = delicious beach + good food + nice people. I think it's the perfect combination for a beach place. I hope you feel the same when you go too!
