If you are traveling through Portugal, more specifically in the Sintra and Cascais region, I recommend a special place to visit: Cape Roca.
The Cape of Roca
This stunning location on Portugal’s Atlantic coast is known as the westernmost point of the European continent. With its imposing cliffs rising some 140 metres above the sea, it offers stunning views of the ocean and surrounding coastal landscapes. In addition to its natural beauty, Cabo da Roca has historical significance, having been mentioned by famous writers such as Luís de Camões, who described it as the place “where the land ends and the sea begins”. It is a popular destination for visitors looking to explore the wild beauty and majesty of the Portuguese coastline, while also providing a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere.
Drive there, passing through roads with incredible views, and take the opportunity to park your car in the large parking that is there. In a short walk you will reach the famous landmark with the cross on top and you will be able to see the wonderful view from that point. You can go hiking along a trail there, but I confess that I don't really like the idea of walking next to a cliff...lol.
Oh, and be prepared for the wind! I think the wind was really bad every time I went there. Hold on to your kids and your hats! 🙂
