We left from Toledo (see our trip there here) almost dusk and after getting a little lost (our internet was dead), we arrived at the train station Arrocha to return the car. The car rental companies are located in a side parking lot, relatively far from the station entrance and to our surprise, no taxis are allowed to enter there. All we could do was walk with our bags, wines and souvenirs to the station entrance.
We took a taxi and went straight to our hotel, Alhambra Suites. The hotel is located right in the center of Madrid, near Puerta del Sol. It is in a residential building and occupies the 2nd floor. The building is old and doesn't make you feel at all welcome at first, but when you go up to the hotel, you immediately feel the difference. It is very modern and comfortable. We stayed in a triple room at the front that had an AMAZING shower! It was a great pleasure to shower there. We paid 94 euros for the 3 of us with breakfast, which is served at a nearby restaurant. It was a great stay!

After resting from the trip and getting ready, we went looking for food!!! We looked for cool tapas bars near our hotel and the first one we found was the one of the night. (I don't remember the name, sorry!). Good, traditional food, with matching wine... perfect to end the night.

We had breakfast at the hotel's partner restaurant (very good, by the way!) and it was time to say goodbye to my mother-in-law. We did the checkout, we left our bags at reception and went out to stroll around Madrid without any set itinerary.
As we already knew the city (see more here) we returned to some of our favorite spots (Plaza Mayor and Royal Palace) and as the day was super sunny, we decided to stop to eat and drink while enjoying the sun.
A perfect way to end a 9-day trip to Spain! There’s nothing like feeling like a local in a city, right?

As our flight time approached, we returned to the hotel to get our bags and took the subway to the airport. Zero stress in traffic! =D
