We went early to Bergen, because we wanted to make the most of our only day there. Almost every day blogs of Brazilians who have been to Norway had something to say about this city and some people even spent more than 2 days, but as we were enchanted by the country's nature, we only dedicated one day and found it more than enough. 🙂
We parked the car on a relatively quiet street, very close to the Bryggen. For the 4 hours we spent there, we paid about 15 euros (135 Norwegian kroner). We did everything we wanted in those 4 hours, but of course if you want to go into the museums, stop for a meal at a restaurant, etc., you will need more time.
We stopped first at Korskirken, which was built in 1100 with only 3 wings. In 1623, a fourth wing was added and this made it look like a crucifix.
From there we went to the tourism center of the city, which is in an interesting building near the terminal ferries (the view is really beautiful!). We got a ticket to talk to someone about driving tours in the area and after half an hour of waiting, we heard everything we wanted (the guy gave great tips – you'll see in the next ones). posts).
We took the opportunity to eat right there, in a market/restaurant that was selling King Crabs wonderful, as well as several other seafood dishes! We bought a huge hooves that cost 300 crowns (33 euros) and asked the lady to open it, heat it up and put salad on it. take away. After 5 minutes, we tried this delicious dish facing the port, with this view. I can only say one thing: it is my favorite food now!!! If I was already in love with the crab from Guarajuba (Bahia), it was very easy to fall in love with this big one. It is more succulent and tasty and look, the woman didn't add anything (I think!). It was a straight fight between Celo and I to share it as brothers... WE LOVED IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!!
We walked through a fair that was happening nearby and Celo had the courage to try it out. whale meat!!! YUCK!!! It's black and looks like a steak, but according to him, it's not tasty. I was shocked by the amount of Asians buying the meat...it must be typical there (Japan, China, Korea, I don't know).
We went to visit the city's main attraction, which is the funicular that takes you to the Mount Floyen, which has a viewpoint with a spectacular view of the city. The name of the funicular is Floating bars and we paid 170 crowns (19 euros) to go up and down. The view is really nice and you can do some trails there too, but we only stayed at the viewpoint…
When we got down, we went straight to the region of Bryggen, which is the city's main street and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has colorful wooden houses glued together and unfortunately, it has been destroyed several times by fires. The last one, in 1955, destroyed practically everything, leaving only 10 houses standing. It's horrible... Because of this history, smoking is strictly prohibited there and there are warnings everywhere. Oh, and the houses are very crooked! I hope you can see it in the photos:
We continued to the city's fortress, the Bergenhus Festning, but we only walked around the gardens (I don't know if you can go into any building/museum).
We tried to go to Domkirken in the end, because our car was parked there, but it was closed.
We left Bergen in the middle of the afternoon, with the aim of sleeping in Lavik, which is a city right on the edge of the largest Norwegian fjord, the SognenFjorden. We took the ferry boat in Oppedal for only 124 crowns (13 euros) and we were able to see this fjord from the inside, without crowds of tourists. So peaceful! 🙂 We bought some snacks at the fjord itself ferry boat and when we arrived in Lavik, we thought it best to keep driving to get closer to our stop the next day.
We passed through micro cities and didn't find any camping, So we had to gather courage and sleep in the car! We found a place with an incredible view and, to our surprise, after a few minutes, a car and a motorhome stopped to sleep there too. It was scary at first, but we got used to it! I loved the experience! 🙂
