Day 1 – 06/01/2017 (Thursday)
Set off to discover Capri and Anacapri in good company!
We took the boat to the island of Capri in Vico Equense, the place we chose to make our base to explore the Amalfi Coast (see more details here), and the crossing took just under 1 hour. When we arrived on the island, we took a taxi to Anacapri, where our hotel was, and that's when the fun began. 🙂
Transport to Capri
There are boats that leave from Naples and Sorrento quite frequently, but we thought it best to leave the car parked at our hotel in Vico and bought the tickets in advance at the hotel reception. Perfect logistics!
Capri is a BEAUTIFUL island and the arrival of ferry just highlights that. I'll let the photos speak for themselves:
We got off the boat scared by the commotion on the pier, but soon we saw some really cool convertible taxis parked waiting for tourists. We paid 30 euros to go to the hotel, which was in Anacapri and look, we almost got sick on the way with the speed of the driver on the curves and cliffs. SURREAL! If I thought people drove like crazy on the Amalfi Coast, Capri surpassed it in every aspect.
Our accommodation in Anacapri
We arrived at our hotel Villa Eva and we were delighted with the garden and the super pleasant atmosphere in the rooms and common area. We loved the hotel so much that we spent the WHOLE day in the pool relaxing and had lunch there, with practically exclusive service. I highly recommend it!
Dining in Anacapri
After a whole day in the sun, there’s nothing better than taking a nap, right? We did just that and when we woke up, it was already quite late and most of the restaurants in the center of Anacapri were closed. Oh, and to get to the center you have to walk for about 15-20 minutes through some super cute but steep streets, so be prepared…
We found an open restaurant (yay!!!) and although the food was pretty average, the From the President saved us. We then walked around the city center without rushing, even though all the shops and restaurants were closed, and we found everything lovely! We returned to the hotel in peace…
Day 2 – 02/06/2017 (Friday)
We had a fresh and complete coffee overlooking the pool and went out for a walk around Anacapri.
For those who haven't read the Italy trip summary post, Capri is the name of the island and also the name of the city that is closest to the sea, while Anacapri is the city that is higher up on the island. Both have cute little town centers with white houses and lots of flowers, but Capri is the most expensive and therefore the most “stuck up”, so Anacapri was the perfect choice for us.
Getting to know Anacapri
Villa San Michelle in Anacapri
We went to visit the Villa San Michelle, which was the residence of a famous Swedish doctor and has a beautiful garden with inspiring views. Take a look:
Mount Solaro in Anacapri
When we left there, we passed by Monte Solaro Gondola and we took the cable car (11 euros round trip per person) to the top of Mount Solaro, where the highest point on the island is located at 589 meters high. The view from there is simply breathtaking. must! As the day was not 100% clear, it was not possible to see much beyond the island, but they say that you can see the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Ischia and Procida as well.
We had lunch at a restaurant with wonderful food and atmosphere and I have to recommend it here: Trattoria Il Solitario. Look how cute:
Boat trip around Capri
Then we took a taxi to Marina Grande (25 euros) and there we met Marcello, the captain of the boat we rented directly from the hotel. We took a boat for the whole afternoon just for the four of us for 250 euros (with drinks) and we were able to go around the entire island at our own pace, you know? It was simply perfect! Marcello is a super friendly and attentive gentleman and he stopped at the main diving spots on the island and explained a lot about the place to us. We visited the Blue Grotto, the Green Grotto, the White Grotto and several other places that I can't remember the name of (lol)… I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! Look at this perfection of nature:
We finished the boat trip ecstatic and took a taxi to the hotel (25 euros again), where we rested and then got ready to go out for dinner.
Getting to know Capri
This time we walked to the center of Anacapri and took a taxi from there to the center of Capri (20 euros), but I think it would have been better to take a taxi directly from the hotel. When we arrived in Capri, Ana could already see the difference. The place is much more chic, people dress as if they were at a gala party (even with uneven sidewalks), in short... it's a super exaggerated business. Just look at the level:
Dining in Capri
Since we didn't have a reservation at any restaurant, we were told NO several times in our faces. I don't know if it was because we weren't dressed like most people or if it was because they were really full, but the fact is that we were quite annoyed by it. We found a restaurant with a table, Oh Faraglioni, but the food was nothing special and it cost a fortune! I was shocked when I saw that we had to pay 5 euros per person for the covered (cutlery and table organization) and + 15% of mandatory service, although in most restaurants there is no obligation. I think it was the most expensive bill of the entire trip... So be prepared!
We had an ice cream in the center, which was also expensive, and took a taxi back for the same price as the outward journey (20 euros) to the center of Anacapri and from there we walked to the hotel. At least they have a fixed price for taxis!
Day 3 – 06/03/2017 (Saturday)
Lunch with a view in Anacapri
We had our delicious breakfast at the hotel, enjoyed the pool a little longer and when it was time for lunch, we walked to a restaurant recommended by the owner of our hotel, Giorgio Al Cucciolo. What a spectacular view!!!! The food was good too, but the view….ah, that was totally worth it. <3
We took the restaurant's van to the center of Anacapri, did some basic shopping and then went back to the hotel to get ready to leave. The hotel owner himself took us to Marina Grande (25 euros) and around 5 pm, we caught the boat back to Vico at platform 13. It was a bit of a hassle to get in and find a seat, but we managed it!
We arrived in Vico, picked up the car and drove to Pomegranate, where we returned the car at Termini station. We took a uber around 11pm to our apartment in Piazza di Spagna, but I told everything about our days in Rome in that post here.
