4 days in Spanish Point, Cliffs of Moher and Dingle Peninsula

Index

We took advantage of Celo's family's visit to Ireland and went to see some beautiful places on the island: Dingle Peninsula, Cliffs of Moher and Spanish Point, among others.

We rented a car through Rentalcars to tour the island and Saint Peter helped and we had 4 wonderful days doing the following itinerary:

NOTE: To see the names of the cities where we stopped on the map, just click on the icon to the left of the text. Ireland with Family.

Summary

  • Day 1 – We left Dublin, stopped in Tipperary for lunch and we slept in a B&B in a beautiful region called Spanish Point.
  • Day 2 – We walked around Spanish Point, we went up to the Cliffs of Moher, we know the village of Adare, considered one of the most beautiful on the island, and we slept in Killorglin.
  • Day 3 – We left Killorglin and we spent the whole day walking around Dingle Peninsula, which is a spectacular region and deserves at least 1 full day of attention. We slept in the same B&B as the previous night in Killorglin.
  • Day 4 – We left Killorglin, quickly passing through Killarney and drove back to Dublin, stopping at Kildare for lunch and a tour of the famous outlet.

Of course we would love to have more time to get to know the Ring of Kerry Also, it is very close to where we were staying (Killorglin), but talking to the owner of the B&B and researching some places, we thought it was important to reserve at least 2 full days for this region, that is, we will leave it for next time.

I'll tell you the details of the days below with lots of photos, tips for wonderful restaurants and tours. Keep reading! 😉

Day 1 – Friday (16/06/2017)

Tipperary

We left Dublin around 11am and drove for a few hours to the city of Tipperary, which has an important meaning for Celo's family. There we had lunch in a wonderful and empty restaurant, the O'Neills.

Spanish Point

We ate super well and continued our journey to Spanish Point, a region on the west coast of Ireland with stunning scenery! We drove straight to our bed&breakfast, the Southwind (grade 9.3), and we rested a little while looking at the sea view from our room. Look how delicious:

We went out for dinner around 8:30 pm and since it was still daylight, we were able to see the beauty of the region. We went to the restaurant recommended by the owner of the B&B. (The Old Bakehouse) and as soon as we placed our order, the owner of the restaurant said that an American lady would pay the bill for everyone present right away. What a pleasant surprise! Of course we went there to thank her, right? 🙂 The food was delicious and the restaurant's atmosphere is very welcoming.

We returned to the B&B satisfied and a little scared by the surprise of the night and slept super well with the sound of the sea.

Day 2 – Saturday (17/06/2017)

We had a delicious breakfast and rested a bit in a little glass room with a view of the sea. What a lovely little house!

We did checkout and we headed to the local beach, which is less than a 5-minute drive away. On this beach there is a plaque talking about the shipwreck of Spanish ships in 1588. Look how beautiful it is:

Cliffs of Moher

Then we drove to the Cliffs of Moher and we walked calmly along the main trail, enjoying every ray of sunshine. Of course it was windy, right, but the sun was delightful…

Adare

We left there and drove to a village mentioned in our Lonely Planet guide, Adare. She is so cute and has won the award a few times. most charming village in the country, having as main characteristic these cottages cute:

As it was almost 4pm, the only option was to have lunch at one of the few restaurants open in the city, The Blue Door. It's located in one of the city's typical houses and the food isn't anything special, but it was good enough. We really wanted to go there. Wild Geese, but the schedule didn't allow it. Here's a tip!

We walked around the city a bit and went into the 13th century church, which was so beautiful! Here are some photos:

We drove to our next bed&breakfast, the Fern Rock Bed & Breakfast (note 9.1), we left our things in the rooms and soon it was time to go out for dinner.

We went to the gastro pub Nicknames, with a somewhat pretentious atmosphere, and although the service was a little confusing, the food was delicious and the pianist was amazing!

Day 3 – Sunday (18/06/2017)

Dingle Peninsula

We had a hearty breakfast and headed to Dingle Peninsula super excited about another sunny day (a rarity in Ireland). We had the Lonely Planet guide that a friend gave me and all our tours in the region were listed in it and in the photo below you can see the main recommendations:

Inch Beach

Our first stop was at a SPECTACULAR beach called Inch. What a wonderful surprise to find a beach that looks like a Brazilian beach and with sea water that isn't too cold. You could even go diving, but we didn't bring swimsuits, can you believe it? 1TP5I regret it

I thought it was cool that you can drive onto the sand and since there is a lot of space, people set up their tents next to their cars, so it's a great help if you want to take a lot of stuff, you know? I thought the place had a family atmosphere and we even saw some companies that offer surf lessons and rental equipment to enjoy the beach.

After I got back from there, a friend tagged me in a Facebook post that said she is considered the THIRD MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN IRELAND. You already know you need to go and see, right?

Slea Head

Well then. We continued driving through the peninsula and although the next stop on the map was Dingle, we thought it best to continue on our journey and only stop in the city on the way back. We continued on to Slea Head, which is a place with a beautiful view! Check it out:

Ballyferriter

We don't stop at Dunkin and we went straight to Ballyferriter, which, in addition to having a very beautiful view, was the filming location for Star Wars.

Dingle

As we were getting hungry, we then went on to Dingle and there we had lunch at a WONDERFUL seafood restaurant, the Out of the Blue. I ate a sensational lobster that I highly recommend! 🙂

We walked around the city, which is lovely – photos below -, we did some shopping and of course we stopped for ice cream at the traditional Murphy's. What a delightful place and impeccable service! You can try several flavors before buying the final one. DSC02210

Cloghane

We left there with some energy left and decided to stop to see the Cloghane, which is a viewpoint with a view of practically the entire peninsula. It's really beautiful!

Killorglin

We went to dinner in Killorglin at a well-recommended tapas restaurant, Sun and Shadow. We called ahead to make a reservation and saw some people without a reservation leave without a table, so reservations are highly recommended! Oh, and the food is delicious and the atmosphere is really cool (it was a church):

Day 4 – Monday (19/06/2017)

Killarney

We had breakfast at the B&B, did the checkout and before heading to Dublin, we had a quick stop at the friendly Killarney. We'll have to take it easy when we go to see the Ring of Kerry, but I already liked what I saw.

We drove a lot and only stopped in the city of Kildare, because we wanted to meet the famous outlet. We tried to have lunch at some restaurants that were well-rated on TripAdvisor, but they were all closed because of the time. The only option was to eat at a really weak Italian restaurant just to fool us, Colosseus.

DSC02248

We then passed by outlet and I felt like I was in the USA! I found the complex very interesting, but I don't know if it's worth it for the promotions because I'm not an expert in shopping...lol.

That's it, folks!

An incredibly special trip with Celo's grandfather, mother and aunt, as well as our baby in the oven. <3
