Getting to know the Monserrate Park and Palace

Index

In October 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, we took advantage of a sunny Saturday and my mother-in-law visiting us to go and see the famous and beautiful Monserrate Palace, in Sintra.

The Palace of Monserrate

A retreat for writers, Monserrate attracted countless foreign travelers, especially English travelers, who praised its beauty in travelogues and engravings. When Francis Cook, a wealthy 19th-century English industrialist and great art collector, visited the site, he was fascinated. This passion gave rise to a masterpiece of Romanticism: the Park and Palace of Monserrate.

Our visit

We went by car and managed to get a parking space relatively close to the Palace. This is what traveling during the pandemic is like…

We took our time exploring the beautiful garden, then entered the Palace, and at the end of the tour, we sat on the grass enjoying the sun and the peace of the place. Before heading home, we stopped at the café and bought some delicious snacks to end the tour on a high note.

It was a wonderful day! We will definitely come back again and we recommend this place to anyone who passes through Sintra and enjoys nature.
