If there is one place I always make a point of taking family and friends who come to visit us here in Portugal, it is Ericeira. Fortunately, this super nice village is less than 1 hour from our house in Cascais and the road is empty and of excellent quality, like almost all in the country.
Our opinion about Ericeira
It is a tourist village on the Atlantic coast and therefore has some good beaches to enjoy, but I confess that we have never been to the beach there. We have been there a few times for lunch and also just to walk around and have ice cream in the main square, but we don't know the beach itself that well.
However, I think the main beach in the village – Praia dos Pescadores – is very interesting for those with children, as there is a considerable stretch of sand and a barrier to the waves that makes the environment suitable for small children. Oh, but don't be fooled: the water is incredibly cold, like everywhere in Portugal. 🙂
I recommend parking your car in one of the parkings Pay and walk through the alleys and squares to Jagoz do Mar. Enjoy the view of the beach and walk to Vila Galé de Ericeira. It is definitely worth buying an ice cream in the main square, Praça da República – and sit down calmly to watch the people. I love it!
