On 05/28/2024, we left Matosinhos – read more about our stay there in this post – and we went with my best friend’s family to a farm they rented in Redondelo, near Chaves. On the way back to Matosinhos, we stopped in Guimarães and ended the trip very satisfied with what we experienced.

We spent 4 days/3 nights together at this farm with a pool and garden and had a great time. We had a barbecue, went swimming in the pool – we even got a big scare when Ju slipped in it without a floatie –, we played ball, flew kites, played with dolls and even watched the shooting stars in the sky, which was super clear. I thought the place was simply delightful and the breakfast they served every day was really tasty, especially on the day they served the famous Keys Pastry. It's really good, even though it's quite greasy.
Getting to Know Chaves
On Corpus Christi holiday, Thursday, May 30, 2024, we went to visit the city of Keys and we were enchanted by its flowerbeds, cute alleys, medieval castle with garden and the Church of Santa Maria Maior, which is full of faithful.
We climbed the Castle tower, quickly entered the church and strolled through the streets without rushing or crowding until we stopped for lunch at the restaurant. Bourgeoisie Food Experience. We ate delicious burgers at this place on the riverbank, but we didn't sit outside because it was too hot. Afterwards, we walked along the riverbank, had some ice cream, and then went to the house of a relative of my friend. Aunt Graça lives in a village house near Chaves and charmed us with her life story, good humor, and physical fitness to take care of her plantation. We ate strawberries and blackberries from the tree, and the children were very happy to live this rural life for a few hours.
Stopping in Guimarães
On Friday we checked out of the farm in Redondelo and decided to stop in Guimaraes to have lunch at the restaurant highly recommended by the Boa Cama Boa Mesa guide, Florencio House. Delicious food, very good service and atmosphere too. We ate meat and seafood dishes and everyone praised everything.
We left there and took a quick trip to Guimarães Castle for our friends to meet and for the children to play, and then we headed to Matosinhos with the kids napping in the car.
Very nice days spent together! 🙂
